Weekend fruit tree pruning workshop a great success!
4-12-08 Wilson, Michigan. In spite of 8" of blowing snow, 26 people braved the weather to attend. We had to modify the format though. Instead of going outside, we brought a 12 foot tree limb inside. Presenter Mike Erdman was able to use this limb like a fruit tree. While making cuts, Mike made the presentation more interactive by asking the audience circled around him which branch he should cut next. He said it's easy to read a book or watch someone else make the cuts, it's a different ball game when you are staring at a tree in your own yard.
After the presentation, all enjoyed a hearty soup/chili and sandwich luncheon. Many had questions for Mike and our host Frank. Due to the weather, the hands on part of the workshop wasn't able to be executed. Folks left with a better understanding of how to properly prune a fruit tree. And a packet of information just in case they need to refresh their memory. If you would like a packet of pruning information mailed to you, call the MSU Extension at (906) 753-2209.
A big thanks to Frank and Esther Schultz for being the gracious hosts again this year.

Public support is important!
Visiting this web site and ordering from the tree sale catalog supports natural resource conservation not once, but twice.
First – Planting trees and shrubs improves wildlife habitat, helps reforest the land and improves the environment.
Second – You help raise much needed funds. 100% of the funds raised are used to operate the Menominee Conservation District. We work to bring landowners natural resource information, adult and youth education and technical assistance.
Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals, groups and classrooms. Contact us for details of how you or your group can get more involved in the protection and conservation of natural resources.
